I fell in love with the writing style, the story, the characters. I wasn’t expecting to love it, but I did. It’s a book I read because the main character in one of my favourite movies ever - Carrie Pilby - is in love with this book. He’s a tv child, he was told from a young age that he’s so smart and pretty and better than everybody else, and since then he’s been trying to stop these words from entering his head. he sees himself as a freak because of the way he’s been raised, and I think he’s right. He’s also trying to stop being so pessimistic, that’s something you know he’s tired of, he’s tired of his way of thinking, he wants to stop seeing the absolute worst in people. Zooey is in a perpetual fight against himself : you can definitely tell he’s a narcissistic but he’s trying his best not to be, he doesn’t want to be praised on his physical look nor to look at himself more than he has to.
But Zooey, somehow, shows her a new way to think : there is beauty and meaning in every little thing you do.īut also, deep down, Franny is angry at herself, just like Zooey, for being so angry all the time, it’s her own identity crisis, she doesn’t know why she’s the way she is, doesn’t know why she ended up being this person. She is constantly trying to find a meaning in what she does, it’s like she cannot do one think if it’s not absolutely extraordinary, and it’s eating at her. She thinks she’s missing something, something bigger, with a deeper meaning. They’re trying to find a way to live in this selfish world, a world they just cannot stand because it goes against everything they believe in.įranny absolutely despises the world she lives in : the way of thinking, the way of living, even the way people have to comb their hair or laugh. We’re the Tattooed Lady, and we’re never going to have a minute’s peace, the rest of our lives, till everybody else is tattooed, too.’įranny and Zooey are both outsiders, they think one way when the rest of the world thinks another, they don’t fit.
